Module 4: Implementing and Evaluating Stakeholder Engagement and Social Learning Processes (WEL)

Module Overview

Welcome to Module 4: Implementing and evaluating stakeholder engagement and social learning processes!

The purpose of Module 3 is to provide you with theoretical and methodological insights into the implementation and evaluation of learning processes in a Natural Resource Management context.

This Module comprises four topics and aims to build on what you learnt in Modules 1, 2 and 3.

Topic 4.1 encourages participants to look back on what they have covered in the previous 3 Modules and revisit theories, concepts, principles, methods and processes in order to better understand them. In this Topic, participants may wish to focus on specific previous material that is particularly relevant to the implementation of their designed learning process or simply catch up on material that they needed more time for. To support participant revision and tutorship we provide a summary of what you have covered and a longer quiz to test your knowledge.

Topic 4.2 explores the practicalities of implementation. There is no substantial written content for this Topic, rather some questions to consider when implementing your stakeholder engagement or social learning activity. The emphasis of this topic is for participants and their tutors to consider the practicalities of running an ethical and contextually informed stakeholder engagement or social learning process. We provide some guiding questions to stimulate engagement on these practicalities.

Topic 4.3 focusses on basic aspects of the evaluation of a stakeholder engagement or social learning process. This topic provides an introduction to evaluation in a broad sense and includes an overview of evaluation theory and a range of evaluation methods and tools for a variety of contexts. Examples of how some evaluation methods have been applied are provided as case studies, including a brief account of how we propose to evaluate this Training of Trainers Course. There is a great deal of content provided in this Topic that participants can delve into far beyond the running of this Course. We indicate which sections are compulsory for reviewing and which are optional.

Lastly, Topic 4.4 revisits the practice of reflection and reflexivity introduced and nuanced in Modules 1, 2 and 3. This Topic the thread of reflexivity running through the past Modules is built upon and consolidated with practical guidance and tools that will help participants reflect, learn and adapt their ongoing stakeholder engagement and social learning facilitation practice.

The timeframe and Module 4 Overview are depicted in the table below:
